Yes – Montreux 1977: Squire/White Studio Jam

My favorite part of the 1977 Going For The One session videos – of which there are various versions around. This is a jam between bassist Chris Squire and drummer Alan White. Alan seems a trifle warm at the end, no? Must be those big Sonor drums (Billy Cobham made it look so easy). Oops… misspelt ‘Montreux’. My home: www.myspace.com

Like all fun jams, it’s often more fun for the players than the listeners!

Cool octave effects on the bass.

One of the greatest engines ever in rock. I wish Alan would go back to this kit instead of the big set he uses today. He is a speed drummer and needs to be on top of his set.

    Actually spelled Noth, no?

To be honest, anything beyond the odd Ludwig or Pearl set is beyond me.

Yes those are north drums added into his set. Alan White did play North drums for a few tours many years ago, at one time he even played a jelly bean kit with North drums mixed into that set up. ( jelly bean kit is a term used for a drum set that’s made up of multiple colors)

Ta! I’m really tempted to put some “Awaken” up – but give it time.
